Catholic Vintage Tabernacle Music Box Nightlight from the 1940s.

It's so hard to believe it's been 70 or 80 years of life for this music box.

I buy this stuff and wonder who bought for the first time. What was their life like back then? This was probably sold just after WWII. Maybe it was in a Catholic veteran's home, just back from the war. I am probably not to far off :)

I think this might be more of a Boomer" thing, than anyother generation. Myself a boomer, remember this kind of stuff in Grandma and Grandpa's home. You might not and that's ok.

This was cool and unique back then and I think it is now.  It might make a nice gift for a Catholic friend or Confirmation gift. I would even love it as a Communion Gift.

In 20 years it will be 100 years old!

Teach children to appreciate the past for the future.

Catholic Unique Vintage 1940's Lighted Music Box with Mary

I thought you might get a smile from this. It’s a music box, night light devotional. Probably from the mid-1940s. It has an Art Deco look before we put fins on cars.

Mary is behind the lighted doors waiting for your prayers. She lights up with a push button located in the back. There is a music box key and when you open the doors it triggers the song to play. I wish I knew the tune! The cross on top needs to be reglued back on. Otherwise, the music box works and it's cute as a button!

Measurements are 9" inches high by 4.5" length by 5" wide. The cord is a bit old-fashioned, but I have not had any issues. It uses a night light bulb, included.

I do have a video on my Facebook page if you would like to view it. : https://www.facebook.com/RecycledCatholic/videos/321044506659231

Mother Teresa will Become 'St. Teresa of Calcutta' on September 4

Mother Teresa will Become 'St. Teresa of Calcutta' on September 4

On September 4, the Vatican will hold a ceremony, officiated by Pope Francis, to canonize Mother Teresa, the Roman Catholic nun and missionary of Albanian descent whose work to help the poor of Calcutta (now Kolkata), India, and ease their suffering earned her numerous honors, including the Nobel Peace Prize.
To many, Mother Teresa was a humble person with an unlimited capacity to offer unconditional love to people.
“There are two kinds of poverty. There is the poverty of material, for example, in some places like India, Ethiopia or some other places, where people are hungry for bread, real hunger. But there is much deeper hunger and that is hunger for love,” she once said.
Giving comfort to the suffering, offering shelter to the homeless, and helping the poorest of the poor was Mother Teresa's life work.
Mother Teresa was born Anjeza Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, the third child of Albanian parents, in Skopje, Macedonia. She was raised in a middle class family, and at 18 decided to become a nun.
She joined the Loretta Order, first as a student and then as a teacher at a Roman Catholic girls’ school in Calcutta, India..voanews.com

Dearest Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Devotion

Dearest Saint Therese of Lisieux, you said that you would spend your time in heaven doing good on earth.
Your trust in God was complete. Pray that He may increase my trust in His goodness and mercy as I ask for the following petitions…
(State your intentions)
Pray for me that I, like you, may have great and innocent confidence in the loving promises of our God. Pray that I may live my life in union with God’s plan for me, and one day see the Face of God whom you loved so deeply.
Saint Therese, you were faithful to God even unto the moment of your death. Pray for me that I may be faithful to our loving God. May my life bring peace and love to the world through faithful endurance in love for God our savior.
Loving God, St. Therese never doubted that her life had meaning. Help me to see how I can bless and love everyone in my life. Especially…
I love your people, Lord. Help me to love them more!
I reflect you to the world, Lord. Help me to reflect you more clearly!
I rely on you, Lord. Help me to rely on you more!
I accept your will, Lord. Help me to accept your will every day!
I try to forgive, Lord. Help me to forgive 70 times 7 times!
I am humble, Lord. Give me more humility!
I see you, Lord. Help me to see you more!
I trust you, Lord. Help me to trust you more!
I love you, Lord. Help me to love you more!
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

Saint Veronica

Saint of the Day!
St. Veronica
She is the patron saint of Photographers and Laundry workers is symbolized by holding a veil bearing the face of Christ and carrying the crown of thorns.
Legend says that a pious woman commonly referred to as 'Veronica'--though she was one of many who accompanied Jesus Christ to he crucifixion on Calvary--was so moved by His suffering she used her veil to wipe His face and the imprint of his features remained on the Veronica Veil.
Legend of Veronica states she took the veil from the Holy Land and used it to cure the Emperor Tiberius of some illness. St. Veronica is said to have left her veil with Pope Saint Clement. Recordings claim Saint Veronica's Veil has been in Rome since the command of Pope Boniface VIII in 1297.
Stories of St. Veronica report her to have been cured by Jesus before his crucifixion. Her faith and her act of charity were the reason He gave her the gift of his face upon her veil.
Some French folklore relates Patron Saint Veronica as the wife of Zacchaeus, the tax collector (Luke 19:1-10). She accompanied him to France, where he was called Amadour. When Amadour became a hermit, St. Veronica moved to evangelize southern France. Others say she is Martha, the sister of Lazarus, or a princess of Edessa, or the wife of an unnamed Gallo-Roman officer. Whatever Veronica's story she is honored as a patron saint of the Catholic Church.
Painting by Hans Memling (circa 1433–1494) Oil on CanvasSaint

In Spanish-style bullfighting, a Verónica is the act of a matador letting his cloak trail over the bull's head as it runs past him.
The same way as St.Veronica is usually depicted holding the cloth.

American Catholic Church Architectural Salvage ...... Carver leaves legacy with church sacramentals

Carver Leaves Legacy with Church Sacramental.
I was lucky enough to obtain some art work from the studio of Joseph J Noe. You can view them at the bottom of this web page. I would like to give you some history on this artist.

Noe had a studio in the Bronx in 1952. New York during the 1950's was experiencing a up surge in artists starting studios and making a family of artists that still lingers today. Mid-Century Modern was just starting and ended in the  early 1960's. Noe's hand carved wood work can be seen in church through out America. If you are a Catholic you are familiar with the oak wood work you see in many churches build during the 50's and 60s. It was probably made in his studios.
Historically and artistically speaking, wood work from the Noe Studio should be cherished and coveted.

Antique Joan of Arc Holy Card

I thought I would list some of my newer cards I have been listing on my Esty website.
You can purchase her at
https://www.etsy.com/listing/114920098/antique-french-holy-card-joan-of-arc

I just completed this wonderful Joan of Arc holy card. Anything vintage and antique with Joan of Arc is highly prized and difficult to find.

from Wikipedia
Joan of Arc (French: Jeanne d'Arc,[2] IPA: [ʒan daʁk]; ca. 1412[3] – 30 May 1431), nicknamed "The Maid of Orléans" (French: La Pucelle d'Orléans), is a folk heroine of France and a Roman Catholic saint. She was born a peasant girl in what is now eastern France. Claiming divine guidance, she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years' War, which paved the way for the coronation of Charles VII of France. She was captured by the Burgundians, transferred to the English in exchange for money, put on trial by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais Pierre Cauchon for charges of "insubordination and heterodoxy",[4] and was burned at the stake for heresy when she was 19 years old.[5]
Twenty-five years after her execution, an inquisitorial court authorized by Pope Callixtus III examined the trial, pronounced her innocent, and declared her a martyr.[5] Joan of Arc was beatified in 1909 andcanonized in 1920. She is – along with St. Denis, St. Martin of Tours, St. Louis IX, and St. Theresa of Lisieux – one of the patron saints of France. Joan said that she had visions from God that instructed her to recover her homeland from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War. The uncrowned King Charles VII sent her to the siege of Orléans as part of a relief mission. She gained prominence when she overcame the dismissive attitude of veteran commanders and lifted the siege in only nine days. Several additional swift victories led to Charles VII's coronation at Reims.
To the present day, Joan of Arc has remained a significant figure in Western civilization. From Napoleon I onward, French politicians of all leanings have invoked her memory. Famous writers and composers who have created works about her include: William Shakespeare (Henry VI, Part 1), Voltaire (The Maid of Orleans), Friedrich Schiller (The Maid of Orleans), Giuseppe Verdi (Giovanna d'Arco), Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (The Maid of Orleans), Mark Twain (Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc), Arthur Honegger (Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher), Jean Anouilh (L'Alouette), Bertolt Brecht (Saint Joan of the Stockyards), George Bernard Shaw (Saint Joan), Maxwell Anderson (Joan of Lorraine), Leonard Cohen(Joan of Arc), and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (Joan of Arc). Cultural depictions of Joan of Archave continued in film, theatre, television, video games, music, and performances.

Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary

Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary
Day 1 of 33

Matthew 5:1-19

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set down, his disciples came unto him. And opening his mouth, he taught them, saying: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God. Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you. You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Examine your conscience, pray, practice renouncement of your own will; mortification, purity of heart. This purity is the indispensable condition for contemplating God in heaven, to see Him on earth and to know Him by the light of faith. The first part of the preparation should be employed in casting off the spirit of the world which is contrary to that of Jesus Christ. The spirit of the world consists essentially in the denial of the supreme dominion of God; a denial which is manifested in practice by sin and disobedience; thus it is principally opposed to the spirit of Christ, which is also that of Mary.

It manifests itself by the concupiscence of the flesh, by the concupiscence of the eyes and by the pride of life. By disobedience to God's laws and the abuse of created things. Its works are: sin in all forms, then all else by which the devil leads to sin; works which bring error and darkness to the mind, and seduction and corruption to the will. Its pomps are the splendor and the charms employed by the devil to render sin alluring in persons, places and things.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Casting The Plaster Mold.

Today I am going to show you how to cast a plaster mold.

I purchased this beautiful heavy plastic mold of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Etsy.
I was thrilled when the mail came and I opened the box. My soul slightly sunk as I inspected the molds construction. Wondering if this can stand up to cement in it's cavity.
I really wanted to make paved stones of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I thought it would be fun to walk with a Saint in my herb garden. I then decided to try plaster first and see how the mold held up to that abuse.

Here are a few of the things you will need to complete the project:

1- The mold
2- a small recycled bucket of some kind for the water and plaster when you mix it
3- cheap dollar store measuring cup( don't invest a lot of money into this)
4- old heavy spoon either wood or plastic or I used a free paint stir stick
5- the plaster
6- spray oil ( the kind you use to oil your pans for cooking)
7- paper towels ( I like to clean up as I work)

A word on plaster I used a high grade plaster I bought from Hobby Lobby. Don't scrimp on the base product you will pay for it dearly with a broken project afterwards.
I used this product it was only $4.99 and I will get 3 finished molds from this.

Now lets get your mold ready for the plaster! The good stuff.
I used plain old cooking spray or Pam in my mold. It's safe to use, readily available in your home already! No need to buy fancy mold release from the hobby store.

Spray your mold liberally with the cooking spray. Then use a paper towel to blot up the excess. Make sure you have no bubbles these will show up after you cast your mold.

Time to make the plaster!!! Are you getting excited?
Get your recycled bowl, spoon, measuring cup, and plaster mix. I also get a bucket of cold water and keep it near by for spills and the water you will need for the project.
Follow the directions on the plaster container.

It's just like making pancake batter.  I like to keep it simple. Add the plaster in the bowl and add some water. Keep stirring and adding to make the plaster smooth and pancake batter like.
You will notice lumps. Keep stirring until you work those out.  Keep in mind you need to work quickly! The plaster will start setting once you add water. If you stir to long you will notice it firming up. Start pouring in to your mold anytime.

Keep your mold level. I used paper towels on the sides underneath of the mold to keep it from rocking.

Now you wait 30 minutes for the mold to harden. I usually wait longer to really make sure the mold has dried enough not to break. It does take 24 hours for the mold to cure. I suggest you just keep in the mold 12 hours. The bottom mold was kept in the plastic mold 12 hours and it turned out wonderful

You gently turn the mold upside down and work the sides to get the mold out.
I generally panic a bit at this stage! But keep working it!

Here is my finished mold! She turned out wonderful!
Hope this helped you in making your own creations.
God Bless, Kim

Antique Religious Postcards Saint Therese and her History.

Have you ever prayed for the soul of a murderer?
Not a topic you would expect is it? I'm not sure I would. For some reason this touched the heart of Saint Therese.
She prayed for weeks for the soul and conversion of this man who preformed a triple murder in Paris, France 1887.
It was so grisly it made international news for weeks during the investigation. Her prayers day and night made the news!
I came across this postcard of Saint Therese praying at her bedside. I got very curious because of the illustrations on the postcard. If you look above you can see God and Jesus with a lightening bolt. The next illustration on the right shows the criminal kissing the cross. I had no idea what this was about until I translated the inscription. After doing some research I came across this article from the news in 1887. http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=TAN18871022.2.34
The man Pranzini was guillotined , struggling the entire time.
Little Flower was only 14 years old at the time. You never know what you might find in a pile of old postcards.

More of my collection of Saint Therese

I haven't researched this one yet! I wondering what War this is? If you have clues, leave me a comment.
